Alexis DeJoria Shares Her Journey to Nitro Funny Car, Developing DC Motorsports on ‘The Racing Business’

In the latest episode of “The Racing Business” with Jason Dukes, racing fans were treated to an in-depth conversation with Alexis DeJoria, a trailblazer in the world of drag racing. The episode, filled with inspiration and insights, aimed to not only entertain but also to educate aspiring racers on building successful racing businesses.

Alexis DeJoria shared glimpses of her unique life, including the recent acquisition of the historic Firestone estate in Newport, Rhode Island. “It’s an incredible place with great history, and I’m excited to be part of its story,” DeJoria said.

Discussing her ventures outside racing, DeJoria highlighted the growth of Bandero Tequila. “It’s a small batch premium tequila, and while major distribution is taking time, it’s getting bigger with each race,” she explained.

DeJoria’s passion for racing is deeply rooted in her childhood. “Since the age of five, I wanted to be a fighter pilot. Motorsports have always fascinated me, and seeing racers like Del Worsham and John Force solidified my dream to race,” she recalled.

Facing the dual challenges of being a female racer with a famous last name, DeJoria worked tirelessly to establish her own identity in the sport. “I wanted to be known for my actions, not my name or gender,” she stated. Her determination paid off, with early career successes in NHRA and Super Comp racing.

DeJoria recounted a significant accident that led to new safety measures in racing. “My parachutes ripped off, causing a severe crash. Thankfully, I was unscathed, and it led to improved safety standards for everyone,” she shared.

Looking to the future, DeJoria expressed her ambition to race in a Top Fuel dragster. “I’ve never made a run in a Top Fuel dragster, and I would love to try it,” she said.
