Kirk Wolf, Dubbin Team Head To Las Vegas To Face Possible Record-Setting Top Alcohol Dragster Field
It’s big shows and bright lights all day and night in Las Vegas, where the action never stops. This weekend at “The Strip” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Top Alcohol Dragster field is going to supply all the action any fan of alcohol racing could want. Heading into the race the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster National Championship is still up for grabs. As many as six teams are still in the hunt for the “Big Wally” with several Lucas Oil Series National and Regional events left on the schedule.
The Stampede of Speed at the Texas Motorplex went very well for the DMP Awnings – Kentex Roofing team, losing to eventual Texas Nationals champion Matt Cummings in the second round. The Copeland-tuned dragster driven by Kirk Wolf was fast, running in the 5.20’s every time down the track. The consistency problems that have plagued the team on many occasions this year seem to have subsided.
Team owner Dean Dubbin praised the hard work of everyone involved. “Everyone on this team has worked so hard to find consistency in the car. We have our clutch program back to where it needs to be – fast and consistent. Clay and Chase (Copeland) have never had any problems making power, we just had to match the available clutch parts to our program. It feels so good to have the car doing what we ask it to do.”
A large, talented, and hungry Top Alcohol Dragster Field awaits the DMPAwnings – Kentex Roofing Team in Las Vegas. Twenty-six teams are entered in Top Alcohol Dragster for the Ford Performance NHRA Nationals, and that’s alright with Kirk Wolf.
“The Field is going to be big, and fast, and it’s going to be a fight just to make the show,” said driver Kirk Wolf. “This team is ready for that, in fact, that may make us better and faster knowing that any mistakes we make could send us home early. This is Top Alcohol Racing at its best and we will be ready. As a driver, you live for these moments.”
Dubbin was also eager for the challenge, “I think if we are on our game we can run with these teams and be in the mix late into eliminations. The Texas race showed that our consistency is back. It’s a good time to be peaking as a team with a fast car because we will have to be at our best this weekend just to qualify. This could be a record-setting bump spot.”
Qualifying action for the Top Alcohol Dragsters starts on Friday with two qualifying sessions: the first at 10 a.m. and session number two at around 6 p.m. Qualifying session 3 gets underway early Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the first round of eliminations slated for 6 p.m. Eliminations will continue Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and progress throughout the day.
