Staging Lanes: Prepared for Anything
Kye Kelley’s brand-new, screw-blown ’84 Camaro may have been built for Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings competition, but it clearly works in PDRA Pro Boost trim as well. Kelley rolled into the PDRA Northern Nationals with the intention of testing his new Wizard Race Cars-built, Noonan-powered hot rod with tuner Jeff Pierce on the property. The Mississippi native accomplished that and then some, using a 3.709-second pass at 199.56 MPH to qualify No. 13 out of 17 cars in the Pro Boost field. He really turned heads in the opening round of eliminations when he used a holeshot advantage and a 3.715 at 202.25 to beat Randy Weatherford’s 3.678. Kelley held his own against Travis “The Carolina Kid” Harvey in the second round, too, cutting a .012 light to Harvey’s .011 and running a 3.697 at 204.08 to come up a bit short to Harvey’s 3.658.
