Lyle Barnett on the Drag Illustrated Winter Series: ‘This is the Pinnacle of Pro Mod Racing’

Lyle Barnett, one of the most dynamic and talented drivers in drag racing, has raced on some of the sport’s biggest stages—but even he admits that the Drag Illustrated Winter Series holds a special place in his heart. The series, presented by J&A Service, kicks off in December 2024 and promises to be a high-stakes shootout like no other. With $300,000 in total prize money on the line over three events, Barnett is excited for what lies ahead.

Barnett, a former Snowbird Outlaw Nationals winner, knows firsthand what it feels like to be a part of this exclusive, invite-only event.

“When I got the invite for the first time, it was a moment that made my heart fall to my feet,” Barnett recalls. “You’re standing there like, ‘What am I doing here?’ But that’s the magic of this deal. Every time you get that invite, it feels like the first time.”

As a competitor, Barnett recognizes the Drag Illustrated Winter Series as more than just another race—it’s the ultimate Pro Mod proving ground.

“This is where the best of the best come to play,” he said. “It’s not just about the money; it’s about the prestige, the competition, and the honor of being invited. These races are the pinnacle of Pro Mod racing.”

Barnett’s passion for the series doesn’t stop with the competition. He is quick to highlight the level of preparation required to compete at this level.

“You don’t roll into Bradenton on December 1st and start testing. You’ve got to be 100% prepared when you get there,” he explained. “These are the kind of races where the pressure is on. You’ve got $50,000, $75,000, $150,000 on the line across three months, and that kind of money makes you dig deeper than ever.”

For Barnett, the excitement goes beyond the racing. It’s the camaraderie, the late-night after-parties, and the overall atmosphere that make this series unique.

“When you roll into Bradenton, you feel the energy. You know you’re at the biggest stage in drag racing. There’s nothing like making that turn into the staging lanes, knowing that you’re part of something special.”

As one of drag racing’s most respected figures, Barnett feels a deep sense of responsibility to uphold the prestige of the event and promote its growth.

“To be considered part of this series is a real honor. Wes Buck and the Drag Illustrated team are building something that will leave a lasting mark on this sport, and I’m just proud to be part of it.”

Barnett and his fellow competitors will line up at Bradenton Motorsports Park starting December 6-8, 2024, for the Snowbird Outlaw Nationals presented by Motion Raceworks. The series continues with the U.S. Street Nationals presented by M&M Transmission in January, and culminates with the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod presented by Smokie’s Garage in February.

With drivers like Barnett gearing up for the series, the 2024-2025 Drag Illustrated Winter Series promises to be nothing short of legendary.
